You may have heard that March Madness, our beloved Spring Basketball game, has been replaced with a new event. Following years of increased enrollment at Kent Gardens, we now stand at a student population of 1,020+. Our March Madness venue, McLean High School, has a capacity of 1,000. For two years, we were faced with the unfortunate situation of turning both students and families away at the door.
As a PTA, our mission is to provide a safe, enriching environment for every student and family at Kent Gardens. Unfortunately, the capacity concerns as well as safety and liability concerns precluded us from offering such a community event moving forward. Additionally, inclusivity is one of the pillars upon which #KGPride was founded. Hosting an event that prohibits us from including all members of our Kent Gardens community directly contradicts the message and values our teachers and staff work so tirelessly to instill in our children.
We are excited to announce our new Spring Event (help us name it!), to be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Kent Gardens. The event will feature a Fun Run/5K and a host of additional activities. When hosted at Kent Gardens, every family member—including extended family—can participate without capacity constraints.
Be on the lookout for Registration Information in early 2018. If you have ideas for activities or names for our new event, we’d love to hear them! Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’re also looking for lots of volunteers to help us get this new event off the ground. If you’d like to join our planning committee, we’d love to have you—just send us an email! As always, we are grateful for the support of our Kent Gardens community. We look forward to seeing you there!
