PTA Officers
Mariasol Herrera-Garcia, Vice President ![]()
I am very happy to serve a second term as Vice President in the PTA this year. I am a mother of two: Daniel, a fifth grader, and Martina, a Kindergartener. I was born and raised in Ecuador and moved to the DC area to work for the Inter-American Development Bank. I want to have an active role in my children’s education and have been volunteering in the classroom as well as with PTA activities. This is our fifth year at the school and my family and I have closely seen the commitment and passion of the KG teachers and administration to our children’s education. KG gives them great opportunities to become greater citizens of the world. I look forward to a productive year, working closely with the KG community: parents, teachers and the school administration for the benefit of our children.

This is our family’s second year at Kent Gardens and I am pleased to be taking on the position of VP-Fundraising for the 2011-2012 school year. We relocated to the US last year after living overseas for six years where we chose to immerse our children in a European (Belgium) school system. As we were looking for neighborhoods to relocate to, we were initially attracted to Kent Gardens’ global approach. When we learned the STEM initiative was going to be integrated into the curriculum, we could not have been more satisfied with our choice of location and school for our children. I am happy to be able to be such an integral part of my children’s education. The opportunities KGES avails parents to participate in school activities and support its programs are wonderful! I look forward to continuing to contribute to the Kent Gardens community and learning from the families who make it such an enriching environment for our children.

I am a mother of three and my oldest daughter is a second grader at Kent Gardens. Last year I served as assistant to the Treasurer and am pleased to be serving as Treasurer for the current year. With degrees in music and linguistics I have worked as a private vocal teacher in the Northern Virginia area for the past 12 years. I am working towards a degree in accounting and it is in this capacity that I look forward to aiding the PTA and, by extension, Kent Gardens and the community. I am honored to be a part of an organization so dedicated to giving our children a voice and look forward to working together to achieve that goal.

I am excited as I begin my first year as a PTA officer. I look forward to filling in where other officers need assistance and in support of our monthly PTA meetings. After four years of watching her sister be a part of the Kent Gardens community, my younger daughter finally gets to start her journey at Kent Gardens along with the first class of Full Day Kindergartners. In my day job, I work for America’s space program (NASA) developing public outreach materials and supporting Congressional inquiries and portions of the Agency’s annual budget submission to Congress. I also serve as the Education lead for the Agency’s Space Technology program. When we are not shuffling kids off to soccer or gymnastics, I stay engaged in local politics and help out with Girl Scouts and church events.
